Visiting Sweden's Dala Horse Factories

Tara Austin's rosemaled Dala horses are a beloved item in the School Store. While in Sweden's Dalarna region, she took a visit to two Dala horse factories.
It was a great day visiting two Dala horse factories in the Dalarna region of Sweden. The Dala horse rose to fame at the World Fair in 1936.
These hand-carved and painted horses have become the iconic symbol of Sweden. I remember each Christmas we would unpack the little red horse; I would have never dreamt that I would be painting a version of these horses in quantity. To have the opportunity to visit the home of Dala Horses was a joy and a memory I'll cherish each time I see the Dala.
I enjoyed seeing untraditional colors including lime green, purple and teal Dala horses at Granna's.
Across the street at Nils Olsen it was fun to have a peek inside the workshop with many horses waiting to be painted in studio with great patina.
