John Manthei visits from The Folk School Fairbanks
A special part about life at North House is getting to host instructors from all over the globe, and witnessing the connections that form between craftspeople from near and far.
This week, we are thrilled to host John Manthei, who has been teaching a Cedar Bentwood Boxes course with Wesley Hathaway. John joins us from Alaska—not only has he been practicing woodworking for almost 75 years, but he also helped found The Folk School Fairbanks, where he is an active teacher. It was at The Folk School Fairbanks that John and Wesley crossed paths, and where Wesley’s own journey into craft began.
John said he has loved his visit to North House so far, including his time at the Instructor Retreat, where he got to spend time with other woodworking instructors. “It’s been wonderful to meet people whose names I’ve known for a long time and to get to put faces to those names,” he said.
