North House Adopts Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

For the past year North House has been formulating a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) statement. It was formally approved this fall, charting a course to expand accessibility and continuing work to make more people feel welcome and invited.

Applause followed the Board of Directors’ unanimous approval of North House’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) statement at their meeting August 3, 2023. It was the culmination of a year-long process that engaged staff, instructors, interns, and the board of directors, leading to a statement as well as a road map for the next two years that will guide North House’s work in this area.

“We felt it was important to act before we spoke,” said Executive Director and DEI Task Force member, Greg Wright. “From the start of this work, we’ve said that there were more pressing issues than writing a statement, and we’ve made tremendous progress prior to sharing this statement with the North House community. I am proud of the work we’ve done to date, and feel that we are growing in our ability to continue moving the organization forward. I also know that there is much left to do in continuing to make North House a place where everyone feels welcome and invited. Having the whole board, staff and instructor community in agreement about what that looks like is key to those efforts.”
