Overview

Wood Week is a thematic week that celebrates all things woodworking—from turning to carving, painting to sharpening, there’s a wide variety of skills and projects on offer, centered in hand tools and local woods. The Carver’s Conference on Friday, March 12 is a day full of free demonstrations, lectures, and gatherings open to the public. This year features Guest Instructor Yoshitsune Yamamoto as well as several new course offerings. The week will include evening gatherings and presentations. Full schedule posted in early 2027.

Featured Guest Instructor

Yoshitsune Yamamoto is a highly skilled toolmaker who specializes in kanna, the storied hand tools of Japanese woodworkers. In addition to making renowned tools, Yoshitsune consults with the GINOWA organization in Japan to build connections between master craftspeople and apprentices in order to ensure transmission of vital technical knowledge and skills to keep these centuries old traditions active and vibrant. This is his first trip to North House, and a rare chance to work with a toolmaker of this caliber outside of Japan. Yoshitsune will give a presentation and demonstration on Friday, March 12.

Carver’s Conference Schedule: Friday, March 12, 9am-9pm

As a special feature of this week, all classes will take a break on Friday to allow everyone to participate in demonstrations, presentations, and community events . Participation in the Carver’s Conference Day is free and does not require registration. The public is welcome to attend. Full schedule posted in early 2027.
