Gabe Strand
Gabe began teaching woodcraft at North House as a resident in the Artisan Development Program, during which time he studied vernacular styles of furniture making that span centuries and continents, connecting 19th-century Scandinavia with rural American woodworking traditions. Prior to sharing his craft with students, Gabe worked as a cabinetmaker, carpenter, chairmaker, and wood studio manager. He has studied woodworking at Penland School of Craft, The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, and with numerous mentors in Southern Appalachia and New England. His passion is for making craft in community with others, and sharing resources and skills that normalize and celebrate the human urge to use our creativity to make what we need.
Gabe established Green Cove Craft, a small press and hand tool maker, in order to create and distribute printed resources and handcrafted tools that help people learn and practice handcraft. Through GCC, he has published numerous furniture plans and writings in the form of zines and chapbooks, which are available at www.greencovecraft.com
