As a designer and maker of “domestic woodenware” and instructor of various traditional handcrafts Jarrod has had the opportunity to travel the world and teach. This has led him to Sweden and England where he studied wooden objects like turned lidded boxes from the 16th and 17th centuries and fragments of wooden cups made by Viking craftsmen in the 11th century. Continuing his search for a living wood culture to inspire him and his work, Jarrod along with his wife Jazmin have traveled to Japan for the past two years to teach Green Woodworking at the Gifu Academy of Forest Science and Culture, meet fellow craftspeople, and study woodturning, indigo dyeing, and the ancient art of urushi lacquer.
Join Jarrod Thursday night at 7pm Central Time when he will present a photo slide show of highlights from his travels in Japan.
