2023 Instructor Retreat

Earlier in April, we hosted our annual Instructor Retreat, a time for instructors to come together for a week of classes, discussions, and learning opportunities.

Campus was full of sunshine and familiar faces last week as we hosted our 2023 Instructor Retreat. One of the highlights of the year, the Instructor Retreat is a landmark on the calendar. We invite our full instructor community (over 60 people are attending this year!) to gather for conversation, hands-on learning opportunities, and professional development sessions.

We created the retreat more than a decade ago to help ensure a participatory, vibrant culture with instructors, and it's grown into a wonderful event marked by the things that make North House special—creativity, collaboration, and community.

During the week, instructors got to participate in one of four classes: mocassin-making with Delaney Keshena; yeasted breadmaking with Caleb Mattison;  a woodblock stamping class with Nick Wroblewski; and Slöjdklubben, which is a Swedish approach to youth handcraft, with Anna Sharratt.

This year's retreat was full of special moments, including fika with cinnamon rolls from the breadmaking class, a parade of felted animals created by the slöjdklubben class, and opportunities for instructors to spend time together and forge new connections.

We're grateful for our incredible instructor community and the time we got to spend together last week!
