Mary Erickson
Mountain Iron, MN
Mary has studied Nordic folk traditions in the US and abroad. She is an experienced weaver and himmeli maker interested in how ancient cultural skills have blended to influence who we are today, yet are often forgotten or lost.
The craft of Himmeli was brought to Minnesota by Finnish immigrants. Mary first studied himmeli making with Elna Hietala in Minnesota and later with Eija Koski in Finland. It is her hope that by teaching and sharing what she has learned about Himmeli that this tradition will continue.
