Course Overview

Himmeli making was brought to Minnesota by Finnish immigrants.Traditionally hung over a table or dining area, these geometric mobiles are also used for celebrations such as Christmas or weddings. Found not only in Finland, himmeli is a tradition in Norway, Sweden, the Baltic countries, Poland, Belarus and beyond.

After learning the basics, students will choose projects based on experience and interest. There will be examples in class to make or students can create with endless design possibilities. Please note that the photos represent the type of construction that can be adapted for similar straw mobiles from easy to advanced.
