Course Overview

Make this year's North Shore vacation unforgettable: join us for family craft camp! Curious kids ages 8 and up and their grown-ups are invited to join us for a five-day summer camp sampler program where they can do it all. Learn to process wool, discover Anishinaabe-style beadwork and hand tool woodworking, explore the woods and waters of the North Shore, try your hand at blacksmithing: this camp will be a week full of learning and discovery for everyone, offering an opportunity to taste a bit of these core crafts, all rooted in our relationship with the natural world. We will host a dinner on a stick and a wood-fired pizza bake. Expect to meet other curious learners who love craft and summertime on the North Shore. Days will end early (3pm) to allow folks free time to jump in the lake, visit favorite spots in Grand Marais, go for a hike, and stay up late for stargazing. Note that the tuition rate is for one adult and one child at least eight years of age. Sorry, no exceptions due to equipment limitations and safety concerns.

Required Tools

  • Snacks, water bottle, daily lunch
  • Clothing suggestions for blacksmithing and field day will be provided closer to camp
  • Note that on the blacksmithing day, each family will do blacksmithing for 3 hours, and have a free half day. Specific scheduling will be provided closer to camp.
