Mary Sannerud is a professional feltmaker, specializing in rugs. Her passion for feltmaking has led her on multiple trips to Kyrgyzstan, as well as time in Norway and the Shetland Islands. She learned the art of making large felted rugs as well as more modern techniques with silk and wool from her Kyrgyz mentors. She has an infectious enthusiasm when sharing her love of felt and has taught workshops throughout the country. Her recent work leading community felt rug projects has been the most satisfying work of her career. Mary lives and works from home in Grand Marais, MN where she enjoys taking care of her young son, tending the large gardens and animals, and sneaking away for picnics with her family.
