Kelly’s passion for textiles blossomed as a child through hand embroidery and knitting. In college, she learned weaving and bobbin lace making while attending a two-year folk high school in Sweden. After finishing her studies in Sweden, she returned home to complete her Bachelors of Science degree at the University of Minnesota in textile design.  She started her weaving business, Custom Woven Interiors, in 1992 and in 2012 Marshall self published her book “Custom Woven Interiors: Bringing color and design home with Rep weave, including over 18 projects, design inspiration, and technique and tips on weaving Rep.    Her textiles are inspired by traditions, from historic patterns to modern abstractions. Color is examined in the detailed blending of the threads, while undulating texture creates visual shadows and tactile pleasure. Handwoven on a loom, using the traditional Rep weave technique, her custom designed textiles are created for functional use, they bring beauty to commercial and residential settings and add celebration to everyday living.  Visit kellymarshall.com to see more of her work!
