North House Folk School photo of instructor, Cathryn Peters

Cathryn has been lovingly restoring antique wicker furniture and rescuing broken chair seats for over 40 years. She developed a passion for basketmaking with antlers and natural materials in 1990 while living in southern Minnesota. Using basketry techniques, Cathryn has created one-of-a-kind woven antler basket sculptures for her clients that reflect the rustic elegance of nature, giving them an "up North" spin. She delights in sharing her years of accumulated knowledge and resources to perpetuate the nearly lost art of chair caning, and loves watching the creative juices flow with students in her antler basket classes. Now a 15-year resident of northeastern Minnesota, she is a studio artist who weaves and hand-gathers materials from her rural property. Cathryn teaches nation-wide and her works have appeared on public television, in books, periodicals, and national galleries.
