Traditional Seat Caning For the Vintage Chair
Course Overview
Bring your worn-out cane seat chair to class and learn the nearly lost art of traditional, seven-step method chair seat weaving commonly known as "hole-to-hole caning." Whether a family heirloom chair or the one you picked up at the antique store that needs a little TLC, vintage chairs that need new seats are welcome, tailored to your specific project. During the course, you'll have ample time, instruction, and all the tools required to restore your vintage chair by weaving the seat back to its original condition. Chairs must have predrilled holes around the perimeter of the seat and be in good structural condition (not in need of re-gluing or refinishing). Each student must consult with the instructor immediately after registration to assess the chair's needs. If you don't have a chair to use, a limited number are available for purchase from the instructor.
