Torch Fired Enamel Buttons, Pins, and More
Course Overview
This class is listed with incorrect dates in the print catalog. The correct dates are April 2-4, 2026.
Have fun making wearable objects you can add to your knitted, woven, or hand-sewn clothing, or make jewelry elements to add your own hand-crafted touch to your outfit. Class will use the open flame of the torch to fuse different colors of vitreous enamel onto copper.
Basic torch-fired enamel and metal fabrication techniques will be taught that include sawing, drilling, hammer forging, and soldering. Acetylene/MAPP torches will be used for both enameling and soldering. Everyone will have time to complete several finished projects that could include buttons, shawl pins, broches, pendants, or earrings. This torch fired enamel workshop is a great opportunity to unleash your sense of fun and play using one of the oldest methods for decorating metal in a folk school setting.
All tools will be provided, with sterling silver and copper sheet available for purchase at the time of the class. The materials fee includes the enamels purchased specifically for this class. Approximately $55-$75 will be payable directly to the instructor in class as a materials fee.
