Woodcarving
Timber Carving: Mantles, Posts, and More
Course Overview
Meet Jock Holmen, the “Norwegian Termite”: when it comes to carving on timbers, you can’t “stump” him. From blueberries to little people, lettering to logos, Jock can help you chisel your ideas into white pine as you design and carve decorative embellishments for your home. Choose from a variety of projects: a post suitable for outdoor or indoor use, a door casing and header, a fireplace mantle, or outdoor installations, and take home a work of art that will be a treasured family heirloom for years to come. Day one will be focused on design work, moving to physical carving on days two and three, adding texture, detail, and refinement as time allows. Day four allows students time to embellish and fully complete their work, with additional instruction in lettering and dating, painting and other finishing options.
