Fiber Art
Sugar Coat Sweater
Course Overview
In this class, students will knit Sugar Coat, a long, top-down raglan cardigan designed for comfort, movement, and everyday wear. Worked in DK-weight yarn held double, the fabric knits up at a bulky gauge, making this a satisfying, fast-moving project well suited to winter knitting.
Working from the neckline down, we’ll focus on understanding raglan cardigan construction while following a carefully structured pattern. Topics include cast-on and neckline shaping, raglan increases, and V-neck construction, with special attention to achieving a comfortable armhole depth and balanced proportions in a longer garment. We’ll also cover practical strategies for tracking shaping and reading your knitting so you can work confidently through the pattern.
This class is ideal for intermediate knitters who are comfortable following written instructions and want to knit a substantial, wearable cardigan while building confidence with top-down garment construction. Students will leave with their Sugar Coat well underway.
We will knit and block a gauge swatch in class before beginning the garment.
