Learn to Weave for your Kitchen

Course Overview

Students will learn about weaving including a brief history, weave structures, how to read a simple weaving draft, wind a warp, and thread a loom. They will design hand towels exploring the use of color which they will weave on 4 harness floor loom. They will also weave samples exploring color and other treadlings using the extra warp on the looms. Material will be provided by the instructors though students can bring their own. Several different finishing techniques will be taught. The class will be taught by experienced weavers from the Northwoods Fiber Guild (based in Grand Marais) allowing for individual attention.

Hours: Day 1: 6-8 pm. Days 2 & 3: 9am-5pm, Day 4: 9-noon

Required

You will need the following tools for this class:

  • Binder with paper & graph paper
  • Scissors, pencils, colored pencils
  • Tape measure

Optional Tools

Other required tools/materials will be provided by the instructors, the Duluth Fiber guild and North House to be available once the course begins.
