From 1998 to 2017, Jim taught for the Environmental Studies program at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. Previously Jim served as a Hopkins Public Schools science teacher and naturalist for 30 years. He is a co-author of the Minnesota Weatherguide Calendars, author of five books on nature in Minnesota, and writer of a weekly newspaper column.
