Time for Fika! Summer Snacks
Course Overview
Fika is the Swedish snack time beloved by both children and adults: a pause in a busy day to sit down and reconnect with friends and family. While a cup of coffee and a bite to eat are obligatory, the favored snacks change with the seasons, and in this class we will focus on Midsummer desserts and treats for outdoor adventures. We’ll knot up beautiful kanelbullar, cardamom and cinnamon rolls; shape small soft rolls for skogsmackor, forest sandwiches for hiking; and make use of summer berries and other Scandinavian ingredients for juice and cookies. Meanwhile, instructor Erin Swenson-Klatt will share the language, mindset, and food culture of Sweden. This is a family friendly class, with children ages 10 and up welcome to attend with an adult and work together on the projects. After sharing a fika, students will head home with a set of the recipes they’ve mastered, leftover goodies, and a new tradition to share with family and friends.
