Woven Walking Sticks
Course Overview
As a companion on a hike, as a thing of beauty in the home, this special cedarbark woven walking stick will become a dear friend in no time. Judy’s “Stick who Walks” was first designed for her Dad and has since been shared with delighted weavers across the United States. Using prepared red and yellow cedar and choices of garden naturals, students will create their own walking stick while learning about some marvelous native materials, classic weaving techniques and unique design options to personalize your own “thing of beauty.” Students are encouraged to bring their own seasoned stick that fits the hand and spirit of the maker, though some sticks will be available to select from. No prior basket skills are required but this project requires hand strength and dexterity.
Basket Week 2018: Registration in this session of this course includes participation in a day of demonstrations, talks and other activities on Friday, August 31 as part of Basket Week for no additional tuition cost. More information will be provided in mid-summer. Please plan to participate!
