Woodworking & Furniturecraft
Woodshop Intro for Women
Course Overview
If you’ve never really had the opportunity to gain experience in the woodshop before, the prospect of working with power tools can be a bit daunting. They’re loud, they’re powerful and it’s no secret they can be dangerous. However, the table saw, planer, jointer, and bandsaw are useful tools: once you know what you’re doing and gain some practice and confidence, they make your work easier and open up new worlds. Join wood artist Cecilia Schiller in a hands-on exploration of woodworking basics: the how, when, and why of safe and effective power tool operation. Using the jointer, planer, table saw, and band saw, you will learn, step by step, how to take rough sawn lumber and turn it into a beautiful multi-colored laminated board; then use it to make an attractive lidded box. And finally, you’ll learn how to personalize it with unique details and fine handwork. By request, this class is only open to people who identify as women.
