Blacksmithing & Toolmaking
Blacksmithing: Women & Non-Binary Session
Instructor:
Elizabeth Belz
Course Overview
This three-day class is an introduction to forging for women, trans folks, and non-binary people. Blacksmithing is largely a male dominated field, which is why the instructor, Elizabeth is excited to offer a more femme centered class. If you have little to no experience working with steel and fire this is the perfect class for you. This class will provide an overview of the blacksmithing tradition covering: primary tools, safety precautions, coal forge management, and hands-on experience. Learn how to swing a hammer with patience and finesse so that you can taper, twist, punch, shoulder, scroll and rivet steel. Students will leave with multiple projects. Students ages 14 and up are welcome to participate.
