Course Overview

The onset of the fall season means that the boreal forest is popping with mushrooms! But which varieties should you eat and which varieties are best left alone? Join a certified mushroom identification expert, a veteran cook, and a nature and food photographer, authors of the new guide Untamed Mushrooms: From Field to Table for an interpretive wild mushroom foray into the woods. Learn what to look for when stalking untamed ‘shrooms, how to sustainably harvest them, and how to successfully handle and transport them to your kitchen. Students should be prepared to hike over uneven ground at distances greater than a mile.

Required

You will need the following tools for this class:

  • Comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes
  • Lightweight, long pants recommended
  • Insect repellent (Deep Woods Off or equivalent)
  • Lightweight backpack, water bottle, snacks

Feel free to bring your favorite tools and whatever materials you might feel appropriate for this course.
