Timber Carving & Embellishment
With a few simple tools, it’s possible to add tasteful details to a project of any size, such as a date, plant leaf or flower, a name, or logo. This class will be especially geared towards timber framers who would like to add a few basic carving techniques to their quiver. In this two-day course, students will create a sampler piece by learning to carve basic inset letters and numbers, and adding small embellishments. Carving tools will be available for use; students are encouraged to bring their own tools. Some tools will also be available for purchase.
Includes materials fee of $30.00
You will need the following tools for this class:
No required tools, but students are welcome to bring carving tools they would like to try out. The instructor will have some tools available for purchase for those who really catch the carving bug and want to outfit themselves. White pine, a soft and forgiving wood for learning, will be provided, but if you work with another material you'd like to use, feel free to bring it along. Clear cut-offs 6x6 or 8x8 are easiest to work on.
Once registered, students will receive a confirmation packet in the mail that may offer additional optional tool recommendations and suggested reading.
