Course Overview

Discover the rich history of the Circular Sock Machine (CSM) and the role it continues to play at the intersection of engineering and craft. Master the elegant and efficient CSM and create a custom pair of beautiful wool socks. You will be guided through CSM gauge and tension, yarn selection, measuring for the perfect fit, hem-top sock construction and finishing the sock. Variations in CSM’s, how to purchase a CSM, maintenance and troubleshooting will also be explored. “Let’s get cranking!” Hand knitting experience helpful, but not necessary.

Required Tools

  • 100 grams fingering or sport weight, wool sock yarn (yarn weight will depend on the machine you are using- check with instructor) 
  • Scissors 
  • 12” ruler
  • Small crochet hook

Optional Tools

  • Dental pick
  • Head lamp
