Work with locally-harvested sweet grass, cattails, and sedges during this two-day class while learning the art of coiling a sweetgrass basket. We'll incorporate an elegant agate as a base for the basket and make a small birch bark ornament wrapped in sweetgrass. Hands-on instruction provides students with an introduction to the traditions and skills of basket weaving, and discussion about how to identify sweetgrass and gather materials for future projects. No previous basket weaving experience is necessary, just your enthusiasm to learn.
You will need the following tools for this class:
- paper/pen for note taking
- needle-nose pliers
- small pieces of old driftwood, beads or other items to incorporate into your basket
- leather thimble
Once registered, students will receive a confirmation email with further class information. Please call us if you haven't received it within 24 hours.
