Sew a “Masma”: Sámi-Inspired Sewing Kit
Course Overview
Make a lovely sewing kit inspired by the traditional Saami masma. Learn basic hand sewing stitches and enjoy a day with featured guest instructor Johanna Runbäck, lead hand sewing instructor the Sätergläntan Institute of Handicraft in Dalarna, Sweden. This style of rolled bag reflects a nomad’s need for tools to be stored in easily-accessible and highly portable ways. It is a beautiful and functional way to carry needle, thread, and other sewing notions, and is much more sustainable than the plastic travel sewing kit of today. Practical skills, good conversation and a useful masma - a great one-day experience at North House!
