Rigid Heddle: Beyond Plain Weave

Course Overview

In this class students will learn different techniques to expand their rigid heddle loom weaving. Samples will be created using finger control designs such as leno, Danish medallions, soumak, inlaid, rya knots, etc. We will explore the use of pick up sticks and/or a heddle rod to create twill, various other patterns and krokbragd patterns. Students will use what they learned to create a small project such as a scarf, towel, or mug rugs.

Skill Level: Advanced beginner with knowledge of warping the loom.

Students age 16+ may register for this class independently.

  • Binder with paper and graph paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Colored pencils
  • Tape measure
