Fiber Art
Practical and Painterly: Flat Felting for the Home
Course Overview
More and more of what we buy is made of unsustainable and forever plastics. When we make things with wool, we are creating long lasting, handmade, beautiful, and completely compostable items. Together we will brainstorm the many things in our homes that we can replace with the ancient craft of felted wool. Using wool as the medium, there is endless flexibility in designs, allowing one to play like a painter. Using colorful wool, (some from local sources) and techniques of needlefelting, prefelts, and blending colors, students will design and create useful and beautiful household items. No art skill is needed as the natural wool material beauty will guide us to success. Make place mats, table runners, seat cozies, pot holders, small rugs, wall hangings, or something else one may dream of.
