Pine Needle Basketry

Course Overview

Create a traditional coiled basket from locally harvested red pine needles. Starting with either a pliable birch bark base or an elegant agate base, you will work with a variation of the spiral stitch to form a basket with a distinct spiral pattern inside and out. Samples of pine needles from other pine species and information on how to gather and store materials will also be discussed. Assorted other natural objects may also be incorporated into the basket. No previous basket weaving experience is necessary, just your enthusiasm to learn.

This course is part of Basket Week 2019! Plan to arrive a day early for the Basket Gathering on Friday, October 25 for demonstrations, talks and community gatherings.
