Traditional Crafts
Old-School Inks
Instructor:
Erica Spitzer Rasmussen
Course Overview
Many cultures around the world have independently created ink from various formulas. The ancient recipes that exist today were derived from archaeological analyses or from written texts. After a short PowerPoint about the history of inks, students will learn how to turn native plants, grocery store produce, and extracts into luscious inks for writing and drawing. In addition to creating time-honored recipes of diverse hues, we’ll make quill pens to try out our concoctions. Then students will take home their pen and amber bottles filled with an assortment of colorful inks.
Students age 16+ may sign up for this class.
