Nomadic Felts: Rugs
In this class students will begin by traveling to Kyrgyzstan through pictures and stories. We will discover how felt is used and why it is such an important textile for the people of Central Asia, and will fill ourselves with inspiration! We will then get our own hands into the wool as everyone begins making their own rugs. This will be a great class for those who want to go home understanding how to make felt on their own. We will have time to complete at least two small rugs, offering you the opportunity of repetition while in class. Students will begin by sketching designs, then learn how to make their own pre-felt (it’s so much better than from the store!), and cover a handful of different ways they can create detailed designs in their small rugs. We will be shrinking the felt by hand, so please come prepared to be on your feet and physically engaged in your projects. The finished pieces will be about 1.5' wide x 2' long.
You will need the following tools for this class:
- 2 bath towels
- small bowl or bucket for soapy water
- sharp scissors
Feel free to bring your favorite tools and whatever materials you might feel appropriate for this course.
Once registered, students will receive a confirmation email with further class information. Please call us if you haven't received it within 24 hours.
