Course Overview

In this class students will begin by studying felt-making techniques from Kyrgyzstan. We will discover how felt is used and why it is such an important textile for the people of Central Asia, and fill ourselves with inspiration!  We will then get our hands into the wool and begin learning how to make pre-felt (it’s so much better than from the store!) and go over different ways to create designs in felt. This a great class for beginners wanting to learn how to make felt, as well as students with more experience who are interested in felt rug making traditions and techniques. We will be shrinking the felt by hand, so please come prepared to be on your feet and physically engaged in your projects. We will have time to complete at least two small rugs and the finished pieces will be around 1.5’ W x 2’ L.
