Fiber Art

Natural Wet Felting with Local Wool

Course Overview

Our felting fibers don’t need to come from the mill or the store! It is possible to felt with wool right from the sheep. Thankfully someone else has washed the wool, but we will do a little processing ourselves and then incorporate already washed wool to make a variety of felted items. Flat felting (seat cozies, trivets, table runners, wall hangings) and hollow 3-d items (pillow cases, vessels, mittens, tea cozies) or what you can imagine, will be made. This is a primitive and direct way to make things using local fibers, giving us a natural, earthy and organic outcome that is beautiful in its simplicity. You are welcome to bring your own fibers to work with and we will figure out if they are appropriate for felting.

Students should have ability to stand and agitate wool.

Students aged 14+ may register for this course independently. Students aged 12-13 may register with a full-paying adult. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and pay two materials fees.
