Much is More: Venture into the World of Finery Embroidery

Course Overview

The Swedish term “Grannlåt” could roughly be translated to “Finery” or “Trappings”. Grannlåtsbroderi is thus the name for an embroidery tradition that adopts and mixes techniques from applique work, goldwork, and crewel work embroidery. It was traditionally used to create objects related to weddings or baptisms and made use of shiny trinkets and small pieces of ribbons and fabrics, too small to serve other purposes. It could be described as a collage or assemblage technique.

In this class you will get an introduction to the different techniques needed to create grannlåt, learn how to design your own opulent embroidery and start working on a personally designed and richly adorned bag.
