Knitting the Night Sky: The Borealis Hat

Course Overview

Let the colors of the Northern Aurora Borealis sky inspire this delightful winter hat knit with traditional Icelandic wool. It is an intriguing design using Scandinavian stranded knitting techniques, corrugated rib and optional fanciful hat toppers that make every hat as unique and magical as the winter night sky and the creator. Knitters should be able to cast on, knit and purl easily. This course is open to students ages 12+ if accompanied by an adult. Materials range from $10-25 for students purchasing yarn and needles from instructor.

Required Tools

  • Students may choose to bring their own 4-6 colors of your own Lettlopi or worsted weight yarn (4.5 st/inch). Or, the instructor will have a variety of colors available for purchase. Many colors of amounts needed will be available for purchase from the instructor.
  • US size 7 and 8 16" circular and double point needles. These can also be purchased from the instructor if needed.
