Knitting the Night Sky: The Borealis Hat

Course Overview

Let the colors of the Northern Aurora Borealis sky inspire this delightful winter hat, knit with traditional Icelandic wool. You will learn the foundations of traditional Scandinavian stranded knitting, Latvian braid, and corrugated rib. Your hat will be as unique and magical as the winter night sky.

Knitters should be able to cast on, knit, and purl easily. The pattern cost of $5 will be paid to the instructor at the beginning of class. Materials will cost an additional $15-25 for students purchasing yarn and needles from the instructor.

Youth are welcome to register with a full paying adult. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.

Required Tools

  • Students may choose to bring their own 4-6 colors of your own Lettlopi or worsted weight yarn (4.5 st/inch). Or, the instructor will have a variety of colors available for purchase. Many colors of amounts needed will be available for purchase from the instructor.
  • US size 6 and 7 16" circular and double point needles. These can also be purchased from the instructor if needed.
