Course Overview

This course is meant as an introduction for young people to the various tools and simple skills involved in working with wood. We will start with an introduction to common tools, stressing safety for both the child and the tools. We'll practice some common skills like sawing, drilling and carving. Then we will move on to an introductory project, a cedar bird house that allows for some creative design choices. We will take our time and work together so that no one gets left behind. If time allows, students will be able to paint their houses with non-toxic milk paint. Students are encouraged to register for both the morning and afternoon sessions which will have different but complementary focuses. This course is open to kids ages 7+ without an adult.
