Craft invites us to pay attention, listen closely, and enter a state of flow through our hands. In that focused, tactile process, craft has the power to help us heal. This workshop is designed for people who are grieving a significant loss and would like to process that experience through making. Each day will begin with intention, followed by guided exploration of how the creative process can help us tell our personal stories. Students will learn basic metal jewelry fabrication techniques, including acetylene soldering, sawing, enameling, and stone setting. Using these skills, they will create jewelry pieces or small metal elements that are personal, meaningful, and connected to their own experiences. Students are invited to bring several small items linked to their loss for possible design inspiration. Together, we will support one another, learn new skills, and create meaningful connections among our hearts, heads, and hands.

All tools will be provided. Materials, including, sterling silver, brass and copper, will be available for purchase at the time of the class. A materials fee of $65-$75 will be payable during class directly to the instructor.

Required Tools

• Eye magnification, if needed to see small detail
• A way to tie back longer hair
• Fine black Sharpie pen
• Pen and paper for notetaking

Optional Tools

• Bibbed apron if you so desire 
• Dust mask if you are bothered by fine dust particles 
• Students are invited to bring their own jewelers’ hand tools and metals.
