Woodworking & Furniturecraft

Hand Tool Woodworking : The Next Steps

Course Overview

This two-day course is designed for students who want to build and expand on their hand tool knowledge and technical practice. This session will immediately follow our three-day Introduction to Hand Tool Woodworking class. It will allow for additional time to work on a more advanced project and will include hand tool demonstrations that go beyond the basics. We will discuss the intermediate/advanced use of saws, chisels, and handplanes, and introduce a few more complex joinery options not covered in the introductory course.

This is a course that will be most beneficial to students who have previously taken the Introduction to Hand Tool Woodworking class, whether in the same week or in previous years. Instructors will contact students ahead of time to assess experience levels and help optimize the classroom experience for all. An ability to stand for long periods and relatively good hand strength are optimal for this class, but adaptive techniques could be employed. Please contact the instructor to discuss possible accommodations.
