Course Overview

Hand pies, the Midwestern cousin of the British pasty, is a perfect treat for the colder months! In this class students will learn the theory of hand pie construction and make two different tasty pies, perfect for lunch on a chilly day or just as a luxurious snack. We will cover the secrets to structurally sound crusts, and what makes a good hand pie filling. Great for households wanting to bake together (a family can sign up together and pay one tuition), or adults curious to learn a new tasty culinary skill!

Required

You will need the following tools for this class:

Students will receive a recipe packet and shopping list two weeks prior to the class date and will provide their own ingredients.

Basic kitchen equipment will be used:

  • a couple mixing bowls
  • rolling pin
  • pastry blender
  • pastry cloth for rolling out dough if you have one (a countertop can work too)
  • wooden spoon
  • measuring cups and spoons
