Course Overview

Hand pies, the Midwestern cousin of the British pasty, are a perfect treat for the colder months! In this class students will learn the theory of hand pie construction and make several different tasty pies, perfect for lunch on a chilly day or to eat as a luxurious snack. We will cover the secrets to structurally sound crusts, and what makes a good hand pie filling. (Note, this is a class that does not offer a gluten-free or vegan option for recipes.)

This class requires students to be able to use a rolling pin and to use their hands in blending the crust. If a student does not have the hand strength or dexterity for mixing, they can contact the instructor to work out an alternate plan for dough preparation.

Students age 16+ may register for this course on their own. Youth ages 10 + may attend if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will work together on each pie and pay one materials fee.
