Woodcarving
Hand Carved Wooden Signs
Course Overview
Personalize any place by creating a hand-carved wooden sign. Woodcarver Jock Holmen will teach the entire sign-making process, from proper design to layout, letter, and incised carving, painting, and finishing options, while students work on a personal project. Whether it will hang at the cabin, the garden, a business, or a man-cave, a handcrafted sign is a great addition. Instruction will include both incised and raised letters. Day one focuses on design and layout, with days 2 and 3 spent carving the sign. Finishing options will be discussed in detail so that students will leave with a clear idea of how to paint and complete their carved sign. The instructor will contact students ahead of time to discuss their projects and possible limitations due to time and materials. Maximum project size is 48”x12”.
Registration in the March 2019 session of this class includes participation in the Carvers Conference day Friday, March 8, as part of Wood Week, which features demonstrations, skill shares and open shop. More information will be provided upon registration. Please plan to participate!
