Course Overview

Have a heart! Hearts are a universal symbol of love. They’re also a simple and therapeutic carving project and an excellent canvas for paints, stains, and decorative carving. In this course, students will practice using a slöjd knife to carve small wooden hearts. This class allows enough time to carve dozens of hearts perfect for cheering up someone’s day—give them away as gifts, hand them out to passersby, or spark a conversation with someone new. Students will also get creative with colors and simple decorative carving to personalize their hearts while learning about wood paints and stains. This course is beginner-friendly and open to all skill levels. Students will leave with a pocketful of hearts, greater confidence in slöjd knife skills, and the knowledge to carve more hearts at home or incorporate heart motifs into other carving projects. Open to ages 16+.
