Gifts of the Porcupine: A Quillwork Intensive

Course Overview

Using porcupine quills, students will learn to sew them onto home-tanned hide. This class is not designed for a finished product. It is about having fun, visiting, and exploring the porcupine quill itself. This two-day intensive is designed to honor the porcupine. Porcupine quills have been used by Anishinaabeg and many other Indigenous nations as a traditional material to create. Quill harvest, creating color, and use of leather will be discussed and practiced to give a full, start to finish learning experience. Students aged 16+ may register for this course independently.

Required Tools
