Blacksmithing & Toolmaking

Forge a Railroad Spike Knife

Course Overview

Learn to take an American icon and forge it into a versatile tool. Students will use high carbon railroad spikes to forge highly functional blades. These knives will feature the recognizable railroad spike head on the handle, giving it a distinct historical and artistic look. Students will learn different aspects of design, forging to shape, heat treating, and grinding of the knife. Students will get the chance to forge and finish one or two blades depending on skill and time. This is a great intro course into bladesmithing and forging.
