Felt is a beautiful and versatile fabric—hats, boots, bags, coats, clothing, rugs and more are possible from the simple process of working with wool, water, soap, agitation (and patience!). In this class, we will focus on the tradition of flat felt-making and tailor the project to each student’s desired outcome. Runners can be lightweight, rugs need to be durable and strong. These projects can hang on your wall, become a window valance, or even be cut into smaller pieces for placemats, coasters, or trivets. Once you understand the process, your imagination is the limit! We will create samples to play with color and design and help you learn the process of felt-making and generate ideas. Each student will then design and create their own runner or rug, and depending on size there may be time to create a couple of small projects. This class is great for the beginning student looking to learn the felt-making process as well as more advanced students wanting to learn new techniques. Physical Ability/Skills Needed: We will be shrinking the felt by hand, so please come prepared to be on your feet and physically engaged in your project. Youth age 16+ may register for this course. Youth ages 10 and up may attend if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will pay one materials fee. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.
