Course Overview

Dreaming of turning your yard into a medicinal and edible sanctuary? Get inspired to grow your own foods and medicines! In this workshop, participants will design an edible and/or medicinal landscape. With a focus on edible and medicinal plants, shrubs, and trees, participants will begin designing their own landscapes. The goal of this class is for you to go home with a list of plants that you want to incorporate into a planting, as well as a detailed or general map of a design that you can start to implement. You may have a list of topics that you want to do more research on prior to implementing your design.

This class will give you an overview of what to consider when designing a landscape. We will touch on permaculture principles, as well as growing plants for other crafts. While we introduce many topics in this class, including soil health and building soil, working with water and pruning, we will not go in-depth into land-manipulation techniques.

In order to fuel your inspiration, class will visit local sites. We will take a plant identification walk and talk about northern-hardy species, and will also touch on medicine-making and harvest techniques.

Participants will take home seeds, saplings, and a design that they can implement at home. Additional plants and seeds will be available for purchase from the instructor.

Students ages 14+ may register if accompanied by an adult. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.
