Child's Windsor Side Chair
Course Overview
Kids may not sit for long, but when they do, they appreciate a comfortable chair just as much as the next person. Learn the essential elements of Windsor chair making in the compact form of a child’s side chair. Perfect for the young ones in the family and a thoughtful gift from a grandparent, a friend, or other family members, this chair will be handed down through the generations. Students will learn chair layout and design, use of wedged-tenon joinery, shaping of seat blank and other parts with traditional and modern hand tools, and steam bending. Students will be able to choose their materials from a selection of various hardwoods that typically includes: maple, cherry, oak, poplar, and ash. Note, in order to accomplish an ambitious project in this short beginners course, some preparatory work will be completed by the instructor in advance of class, as reflected in the material fee. Students ages 14+ may register if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete one project and pay one materials fee. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.
