Bundle Dyeing with Locally-Grown Color: Online Course
Course Overview
Make your own naturally dyed merino scarves with colors from nature. Join us as we capture the gorgeous hues of the season using plants from forests, gardens, and kitchens, and reflect them in our clothing - just in time for holiday gifts!
Students will receive a mailed kit from the instructor containing all the materials needed for the project including three wool/silk scarves to dye, at least six dried natural dye plants (Tansy, Marigold, Goldenrod, Black Walnut, Geranium, and hopefully Indigo leaves!), an instruction booklet, latex gloves, and rubber bands.
Required Tools
- Either a double boiler pot such as this example: (must have a lid, and be ONLY used for dye projects/craft projects and NOT for cooking/eating). OR a DIY version with mesh steamer colander: (must have a lid, and be ONLY used for dye projects/craft projects and NOT for cooking/eating). See examples here.
- At least half a gallon of water.
- Access to a stovetop or electric burner.
- A tablet or laptop with reliable internet connection.
Optional Tools

Foraged fresh or dried dye plants. Such as: eucalyptus, hibiscus, rose petals, turmeric, lavender, sage, marigolds, nettles, blueberries, mint, or other hues you would like to experiment with.
Session Information
Registration closes October 15 so that the instructor will have time to mail out materials.
